The Victorian state election is rapidly approaching, with early voting commencing in just 10 weeks! Join Victorian Socialists volunteers on Saturday September 3 to help us take our message of putting people before profits to thousands of residents in Sunshine, within the Laverton district.
We'll be promoting our fabulous candidates for the area. Catherine Robertson, Victorian Socialists’ candidate for Laverton, is an IT worker, a unionist, and a committed socialist. Catherine got her start in political activism as a student campaigning for free education, and she was a leading member of the Stop Adani campaign.
Liz Walsh is our lead candidate for Western Metropolitan Region, and she has a real shot at winning a seat in the Victorian Parliament.
Liz lives in Maidstone with her family, including a newborn daughter, and is passionate about advocating for people in the west, who deserve better than what the current government and their friends in big business have to offer.
Liz has been a committed socialist for the last 25 years. Her activism started early, with high school walkouts against Pauline Hanson. Since then, she’s taken a central role in campaigns for refugee rights and against racist policing.
Liz also has a long track record of standing up for workers’ rights. She has stood alongside striking warehouse workers fighting for decent wages and job security, and with essential workers demanding better conditions during the pandemic.
Most recently, Liz led a pro-abortion demonstration of 15,000 people in Melbourne, calling for abortion rights in Victoria to be protected and extended in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v Wade. With hard right culture warriors like Liberal candidate Moira Deeming and her predecessor and mentor Bernie Finn (now in the Democratic Labor Party) running in the western suburbs on an anti-abortion platform, we need an activist voice like Liz’s in parliament to defend women’s rights.
Be part of this historic campaign to get Liz, a radical and a socialist who will stand up to the powerful, elected to parliament.
New volunteers are welcome! This is an all-in Victorian Socialists campaign event, so we encourage volunteers and supporters from across the Western Metro Region to join us.
