I’m a school maintenance worker and political artist proudly standing for the Victorian Socialists in the St Albans electorate.
I’ve been living in the western suburbs for 18 years, and I’ve raised my kids here. The inequality and injustice is shocking. From exposure to toxic fires and waste sites, to congested roads and sparse public transport, working class communities in the west are neglected and abused by governments, both Labor and Liberal, for the sake of profit. Victorian Socialists is the only party looking to fight against this and to build a movement that can win justice for all of us.
This extends to the racism and xenophobia that comes from the top and plagues our communities. Despite blatant racial profiling and the national disgrace of mounting deaths in custody, the Victorian Labor government continues to increase funding for prisons and police while neglecting health and education. We need people in office who will fight for support for our communities, and against police harassment.
As social services continue to be cut and privatised, mortgage and rent increases are squeezing families to the limit. The housing crisis in this state is out of control. But real estate companies and billionaire investors have the ear of politicians, and housing policies are designed to line their pockets.
My art and political work has always been about amplifying the voices of the oppressed and exploited, especially those who courageously fight back against the system. That’s why I’m a socialist, and why I’m standing for a campaign that puts people before profits.
