In a wealthy country like Australia, everyone should live a decent life. But today, only the people at the top are growing their wealth.

Hi, I’m Shan.

I’m running in this year’s council election as a candidate with the Victorian Socialists because I believe people should be put before profits.

Politicians at all levels of government are in the pockets of big business and have grown increasingly out of touch with the people they’re supposed to represent.

In a wealthy country like Australia, everyone should live a decent life. But today, only the people at the top are growing their wealth.

Councils should help turn this situation around and tackle urgent issues like the housing shortage, the cost-of-living crisis and climate change.

I’m a Malvern East local, studying environmental science and the impacts of climate change on local communities.

I’ve been a community organiser for many years. I’ve been involved in campaigns against racism, for action on climate change and for trans rights. For the last year, I’ve also campaigned in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

I believe councils should fight for social and economic justice. If elected, I’ll fight for our community and for a council that puts people before profits.
