Hi, I’m Rory. I’m running in this year’s council election as a candidate with Victorian Socialists because I believe in a society that puts people before profit.

I’ve lived in Watsonia North and Greensborough my whole life and am currently studying at La Trobe Uni.

Ordinary people in Grimshaw deserve a council which invests in quality facilities, not just in richer suburbs like Ivanhoe, but for the entire community.

Politicians at all levels of government are out of touch and in the pockets of the rich. The rich continue getting richer, while ordinary people live off scraps. Councils have a responsibility to help turn this situation around, and tackle urgent issues like the housing shortage and cost of living crisis.

I will fight for a progressive council which champions social justice. In May I spent weeks as an organiser and camper at the Gaza solidarity camp at La Trobe, protesting my university’s connection to the genocide in Palestine.

I’ve also been involved in organising climate activism, protests for refugees, LGBTI rights and anti-fascist activism.

If elected in October, I’ll fight for our community and for the better world that we need and deserve.
