I will campaign for a crackdown on big businesses that treat the western suburbs like a waste dump. Council needs to hold these dodgy businesses to account and demand tougher regulation.

Hi, I’m Liz Walsh. I’m running in this year’s council election as a candidate with Victorian Socialists because I believe we need a strong voice for ordinary residents on Brimbank Council.

I'm a resident of Albion, a secondary school teacher in the western suburbs and a member of the Australian Education Union.

As a mum to an energetic toddler, I know the importance of council investing in and maintaining our libraries, playgrounds and community centres. These council-run facilities bring the community – young and old – together.

I've been active with the Friends of Kororoit Creek. We all deserve a beautiful place to live and collectively we can contribute to improving the health of waterways and habitat for native animals.

I will put the interests of people in Brimbank ahead of big developers. We are in a housing crisis and we need to ensure Brimbank is a place where people can afford to live.

I know the cost of living crisis is biting residents hard. But we have politicians at all levels of government in the pockets of the rich. In a wealthy society like Australia, everyone should have the chance to live a decent life. We need people on council who will put council resources towards meeting the very real needs of our community and will campaign for a fairer society.

I will campaign for a crackdown on big businesses that treat the western suburbs like a waste dump. Factory fires or fires at waste dumps and recycling facilities have spewed dangerous chemicals into our air. Council needs to be at the forefront of taking the fight up against these dodgy businesses, holding them to accountability and demanding tougher regulation.

I’ve been a community organiser for many years. I’ve been involved in campaigning against the racist far right operating out of local gyms in Sunshine West and I've marched for climate action. Recently, I’ve campaigned in solidarity with the people of Palestine and demanded Brimbank Council speak out against Israel's war on Gaza. I believe councils should be a place where questions of social justice are raised and acted on.

If elected in October, I’ll fight for our community and for the better world that we need and deserve.
