Hi, I’m Jaynaya. I’m a local renter and hospitality worker in the Glen Eira area and a member of the United Workers Union. I’m running in this year’s council election as a candidate with Victorian Socialists because I believe in a society that puts people before profit.

In a wealthy society like Australia, everyone should have the chance to live a decent life. Today, the people at the top are seeing their wealth grow rapidly, while many at the bottom are being left behind. Councils have a responsibility to help turn this situation around, and tackle urgent issues like sky-rocketing rents and a cost of living crisis.

I’ve been an activist and a socialist for many years. I’ve been involved with helping to organise community campaigns against racism and for refugee rights. More recently, I’ve been a part of the Palestine solidarity movement and have campaigned against the genocide in Gaza. I believe councils should be a place where questions of social justice are raised and acted on.

If elected to Glen Eira Council this October, I’ll fight for you.
