In wealthy Australia, everyone should have the chance to live a decent life. We need activists on our local council who will fight for social justice and for a decent quality of life for working people.

Hi, I’m David, I’m running in this year’s council election as a candidate with Victorian Socialists because I believe that the people of Hume have long been neglected. We need an alternative that puts people before profit in our local communities. I’m a near lifelong Hume local, a retail worker and a member of the SDA, and soon to become a teacher.

Hume’s facilities are severely lacking. Our closest hospital, the Northern in Epping, is overwhelmed. Our public schools are underfunded and often overcrowded.

In wealthy Australia, everyone should have the chance to live a decent life. Those at the top are seeing their wealth grow rapidly, while many at the bottom are being left behind. Councils have a responsibility to turn this around and tackle urgent issues like rising mortgages and cost of living.

For years I’ve been involved in campaigns for action on climate, against industrial fires, against toxic waste incineration. I have been active in anti-racist campaigns and in solidarity with Palestine.

We need activists on our local council who will fight for social justice and for a decent quality of life for working people. And if elected in October, that is exactly what I’ll do.
