We need massive investment in public schools, public transport and public housing to start to address the growing cost of living crisis.

Hi, I’m Alex. I’m the Victorian Socialists candidate for Point Cook.

I live in Altona Meadows and work in student services at RMIT. Unlike the career politicians and billionaires who run our society, I know what it’s like for the majority of people who work hard, commute long distances, and are feeling the pressure of rising inflation. We need massive investment in public schools, public transport and public housing to start to address the growing cost of living crisis.

I have been a union delegate and workplace activist for over 15 years. During the pandemic, I’ve been at the forefront of workplace organising for Covid safety measures. As a founding member of NTEU Fightback, I worked to rekindle rank-and-file activism among university staff. Together we took on the bosses, who wanted to implement massive job cuts and pay cuts at these institutions, despite their multi-billion-dollar turnovers.

We need to build fighting unions that will take on governments and big business to win better wages and conditions on the job. Victorian Socialists are committed to smashing the punitive anti-union laws that curtail industrial action in this country. It’s through union activism – organising ordinary people in their workplaces, as well as mass movements on the streets – that we can really begin to challenge inequality and the destructive, racist logic of the capitalist system.

I have been a socialist and an activist my entire adult life. I’ve been active in countless campaigns – against the Iraq war and nuclear waste dumps, and for refugee rights and marriage equality. I’m committed to fighting for a society that works for everyone, not just for the wealthy few
