Hi, I’m Brendan.

I’m running in this year’s council election as a candidate with Victorian Socialists because I believe big business interests have taken over the council.

I’m a teacher and City of Maribyrnong local, but I grew up in Texas. The USA showed me how ugly inequality can get when corporate interests are left unchecked. I don’t want my new home to go down that road.

I grew up without access to health insurance, public transport or the social safety net that all workers deserve. In Melbourne, we must defend our public resources, and fight for more, before it’s too late. We need councillors who prioritise the public good over their own political ambitions.

Politicians at all levels of government are in the pockets of the rich. We deserve better. The only way to get it is by building community campaigns demanding that people are put before profit.

I’ve been a community organiser for almost 20 years, both here and in the USA. I’ve been involved in campaigns for workers’ rights, against racism and war, and for action on climate change. I believe councils must be committed to social justice at all levels.

If elected in October, I’ll fight for our community.
